Brisbane to host inaugural on water boat show

PLANS are under way for Brisbane’s first on water international boat show to be held at Rivergate Marina and Shipyard in Murarrie from 5 to 7 October, 2012.

The Rivergate International Boat show will bring together the best of marine accessories, jet skis, power and sail boats to luxury cruisers, superyachts, nautical fashion and a riverside seafood festival.

Rivergate International Boat Show general manager Tracey Toovey outlined the drive behind the decision to stage the event.

“There’s been talk in the industry for a number of years about the need for an on water exhibition in Brisbane and after many months of negotiations and meetings, we decided to stage the event,” Ms Toovey explained.

“While the current economic climate is tough, hosting the show in a location with ample parking, on the doorstep of the CBD, will provide manufacturers and boating-related businesses with the chance to exhibit their products to a broader target market, while providing an opportunity for a younger urban demographic to get a taste for the boating lifestyle.

“Brisbane’s position as a business and pleasure hub for the mining industry also presents further potential for exhibitors to reach prospective clients,” she said.

Rivergate International, according to organisers, will have a distinctive family friendly flavour with on-site demonstrations, an international marketplace and a sea trial area where visitors can "try before they buy".

Organisers said the event is expected to attract in excess of 20,000 visitors over three spring days.
